THE 2026 SCARBOROUGH SALOMON FLYNT COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD IS AWARDED TO WINTHROP F. CHENAIL

May 19, 2026

Acting on behalf of the citizens of Williamstown in making this eleventh Scarborough Salomon Flynt Community Service Award, the Selection Committee recognizes the integrity, excellence, and dedication of his service to the citizens of Williamstown.

Win Chenail, the owner of Mount Williams Dairy Farm, has been a mainstay of the Williamstown community for 80 years. The family dairy farm at the top of Luce Road has been an anchor farm in the community since 1916. His farm stand has been operating since 1965 providing sweet corn, homegrown tomatoes, cucumbers, broccoli, cabbage, peppers, summer squash and flowers, and pumpkins that he and grandson Nick Chenail grow as a side business to the family dairy farm. Through the diligent efforts of Win and his family, we have the opportunity to enjoy local farm produce and milk from one of the biggest and oldest farms in Williamstown.

Win also has been caretaker and manager for Williamstown-owned property. The fields at the Spruces and the Burbank property, a 130-acre field on the corner of Stratton Road and Luce Road, are conservation land leased by the Conservation Commission to the farm. The Chenail Family has been managing the land since the 1950s, keeping the fields green, lush, and productive with sustainable management practices. They fertilize with manure from the dairy farm, adding lime as needed. With careful long-term stewardship of the soil, the land has continued to be fertile and productive for half a century under his care.  Williamstown recognizes Win’s longstanding contribution to the local farm community and the regional food system.
